The Design Story
zameen ke rangZameen ke RangAnjana Devi has been weaving for many years. She enjoys making Manchahas because they give her full freedom. Here, she does not follow a fixed design or a drawn map. She begins and lets her hands decide the next step. In this rug, she created organic stripes, each in a single, strong colour. The shades do not fade into one another. They meet, overlap, and shift. It feels like different terrains stitched together. In one yellow stripe, she wove branches inspired by a large tree near her home. That tree has been part of her everyday view for years. Other sections feel like soil, forest, water, and shadow, different parts of a landscape held in one frame. Because of this, she named the rug ‘Zameen ke Rang,’ which means ‘Colours of the Land.’
