The Design Story
mann sundarMann SundarArchna Devi and Babli Devi are real sisters, and this rug was woven the same way they spend time together—freely, without thinking too much about rules or fixed ideas. As they worked, they kept adding whatever came to mind. Sweet Dates, betel leaves, cooler nets, stars, kites—different motifs kept entering the rug one after another. Nothing was planned from the beginning, but somehow everything found space. On the left side, Archna Devi added fish swimming in water. She says she has a small aquarium at home with orange fish she loves watching, so she wanted them in the rug too. At the top, the sisters ended the carpet with ice cream cone motifs, adding a playful touch to the design. While weaving, they sometimes watch television together. They especially enjoy a Hindi serial called ‘Mann Sundar’ (Beautiful Mind). The name stayed with them, and by the end, they decided to name the rug after it. The rug feels light, personal, and full of small things that make up their everyday life.
