The Design Story

bhatakta samundar

Bhatakta Samundar
The ocean water never stays in the same place and travels around, just like that, I want to travel the world,” says Kaiyum, an artistic weaver from Bangladesh. While Kaiyum is locked behind bars, his creativity is never restricted as he always weaves something extraordinary. In this hand-knotted rug, he has woven 3 ships and two cruises that reflect his love for traveling. He has also woven the Lakshman Jhoola bridge and water underneath it. Being an artistic person himself, Kaiyum always tried to make original and unique designs, so he has also tried to portray the scene of the ocean water shining under the sunlight. Kaiyum shares that his creativity is his only hope to live a better life. His love for travel and his ability to translate that love into a work of art remind us that creativity is never restricted. Based on his love for traveling, he named this Manchaha ‘Bhatakta Samundar,’ which means ‘Wandering Ocean.’
