The Design Story
galtiGaltiV.P. Singh, the artist behind this Manchaha, is known for his unique style and for his love of diamond motifs. Ever since his first Manchaha “Dostana” gained recognition, he has continued experimenting with this shape in every rug he creates. For this Manchaha, he planned a large medallion diamond and wove each knot with precision, separating colors and maintaining perfect symmetry. As the rug neared completion, Moti, a new weaver, asked if he could weave on V.P.’s loom. Since the rug was almost finished, V.P. gladly agreed. “What could possibly go wrong?”, he thought. But then it happened. A bend, a slight curve began forming in his perfectly geometric design. The lines tilted at the top. V.P. was annoyed at first, but soon he realized how that tiny shift added a new character to the rug. He even tried to mirror Moti’s curvy line on his own side. V.P stepped out of his comfort zone and learned something new from the unexpected. He embraced the beauty of this “mistake” and named the rug “Galti.”
