The Design Story

rekhaon ka kaam

Rekhaon ka Kaam
Maya Devi approached this Manchaha with a clear focus on pattern and control. She built the rug in horizontal sections, each carrying a different kind of movement. The rug starts with a dense design as the patterns are tight and more detailed. Small dots, fine lines, and compact textures start filling the space. The colour stays mostly neutral, but slight changes in tone keep the surface active. In the middle, a band of small plant-like motifs appears in a neat row. These sit quietly between dense zig-zag patterns above and below, almost like a pause in the rug. At the top, bold zig-zag lines run across, setting a strong rhythm. Just below, she shifted to smaller checks and broken lines, slowing the pace. Maya Devi did not rely on big motifs. Instead, she worked with repetition, variation, and balance. The rug feels steady, built line by line with patience. She named this rug ‘Rekhaon ka Kaam’, meaning ‘Work of Lines.’
