Antique rug dealers often interchange the terms Khotan and East Turkestan. In 1933, the Bughra brothers led a rebellion in Khotan, establishing the Khotan Emirate. Buddhism arrived in Khotan from India in the 1st century BCE, enriching its cultural landscape. East Turkestan rugs, renowned for their quality and craftsmanship, boast a long history of traditional techniques passed down through generations, utilizing natural materials like wool, silk, and cotton.
