The Design Story
sofreh (c.1940)This antique squarish Sofreh from 1940 presents an open field in soft cola and desert rose tones, creating a layered effect that radiates warmth. The center remains unadorned, emphasizing the simplicity and utility for which Sofrehs are traditionally woven. The borders, in deep ink blue, are animated with geometric motifs in white and subtle red, enclosed within narrow guard stripes of pink. The serrated edges of the field break into the border in a bold flame-like rhythm, giving this Sofreh its distinct tribal character and a powerful sense of movement across its compact square form.
