The Design Story
yaadgar barishYaadgar BarishSumitra Devi’s Manchaha “Yaadgar Barish” holds onto her memories of the rainy days in her village when she used to weave her manchaha during the monsoon season. While Sumitra Devi was weaving this carpet she discovered all her yarns were blue which is the color of water. She decided to weave water droplets but in an innovative manner. She seeked inspiration from the Rajasthani janjeera patterns instead of making oval water droplets as they are of a similar size to represent her monsoon. Moving forward she has woven a big lamp in the center seeking inspiration from her home lamp which she used to witness every day at the entrance of her door. Her Manchaha is a beautiful combination of light and rain which glorifies the essence of nature. On the right and left-hand sides of her Manchaha, she has portrayed rain tweaked with leheriya patterns to make them look one of a kind. Throughout her Manchaha Sumitra Devi has portrayed her uniqueness to innovate her rainfall with the little inspirations that surround her life.
