The Design Story
fasal ke geetFasal Ke GeetLada Devi and her daughter Payal, a spirited mother-daughter duo, set out to weave their Manchaha rug. Known for their vibrant, joyful color choices, they were surprised, and admittedly disappointed when handed a soft neutral palette of yarns this time. Frustrated, they began weaving simple, boxy patterns. Their family noticed immediately. “This doesn’t feel like a Manchaha,” someone said. The two always have a distinct pattern on each side, but this one lacked that spark. It was Lada’s husband who gently helped them see the beauty they were missing. “These are the colors of our land,” he said. "The fields of bajra (millet) and jowar (sorghum), when they ripen, they shine golden, same as the colors you got." That moment changed everything. Inspired by his words, Lada began weaving a dynamic zigzag pattern on the left, symbolizing the plowed fields and the sowing of seeds. Payal, on the right, brought to life the joy of the ripe harvest with motifs blooming like crops ready to reap. Their hearts had lightened. Something shifted inside them. What began with resistance ended with celebration. They named their creation "Fasal Ke Geet," meaning, Songs of the Harvest, a beautiful tribute to the land that inspired their creation.
