The Design Story
baadalBaadalWeaving Manchahas is like a game to our weavers. They say that the more people participate, the more fun the weaving game becomes. In the quint village of Manoharpur in Rajasthan, Patasi and her large team of weavers created this Manchaha rug. The monsoon, their favorite time of year, brings vibrancy and chatter to the loom as 6-7 weavers gather at Patasi’s center. The unpredictable rains, however, often disrupt their routine. When a weaver takes a holiday due to the heavy rain, another steps in to continue the work. Initially, this caused friction. Weavers would return to find their designs altered by the stand-in and quarreled because of it. Yet, as the days passed, an understanding developed among them. They began to appreciate each other’s contributions, seamlessly continuing the previous weaver’s design. It felt as though the clouds themselves were guiding their hands. The evolving patterns on the loom mirrored the ever-changing sky—hazy clouds giving way to distinct forms, each weaver adding her unique touch to the hand-knotted rug. Their creation, aptly named "Baadal," meaning clouds, embodied this journey. The weavers likened their relationships on the loom to the clouds above—sometimes dark and stormy, other times peaceful and quiet, and occasionally filled with the thunder of conflict. Through it all, their collective effort produced a masterpiece, a symbol of their unity and the beauty of collaboration. The weavers were thrilled to learn that this Manchaha was featured in a photoshoot campaign with the company's founder, Nand Kishore Chaudhary, whom they lovingly call Bhaisaab (elder brother).
