The Design Story
tod-jodTod-JodIn a rural village of Hardoi, Rajesh Kumari, Neetu, and Ranjana casually talked about the imperfections of life in a causal way that would surprise anyone. These weavers are masters in crafting abstract design patterns that are deeply personal and heartfelt. Drawing inspiration from the concept of ‘brokenness,’ these artisans focused on capturing the beauty of rough paths, wall cracks, wrinkles, and imperfections in their clay pots. They believe that while it’s easy to find beauty in perfection, true uniqueness lies in how we perceive flaws. The lines formed by cracks and the shapes of rugged paths reveal a unique artistry for these weavers. This perspective inspired them to name their rug “Tod-Jod,” which means “to break and to join,” symbolizing the blend of brokenness and unity in the rug’s design.
