The Design Story
virasatVirasatTwo sisters, Madhuri and Sudha, began their Manchaha journey together with a rug they named Virasat (Heritage), which is an ode to the art passed down from their mother. Their home is adorned with various beautiful elements made from everyday objects. Their mother crafts hand fans, referred to as ‘Baina’ in their local language. She also transforms her old sarees into decorative items, such as curtains, chandeliers made from bangles, and torans for entrance gate decorations. While weaving this rug, the sisters infused it with all they had learned from their mother over the years. Despite not having many resources or extravagant decorations for their home, their mother has always done her best to create a beautiful environment. She believes that a home should reflect its owners. It's not the fancy items that define a house; rather, the emotions and love infused into each piece that truly make it a home, no matter how simple one’s lifestyle may be. The artistry of their creations, especially the square-shaped bainas, beautifully came together on the rug. Through this Manchaha, Madhuri and Sudha have woven their mother’s legacy that will continue to inspire for generations.
