The Design Story
kadamKadamPinki Devi has woven this rug as a tribute to the vibrant life of her village. At the bottom, she begins with a gate, a symbol of welcome—an invitation for the viewer to step into her world. At the center, a large diamond shape stands out. It represents the step-well from her village. She has woven delicate patterns to form the steps leading down to the water, each design carrying a rhythm of its own. Decorated with bandarwals—the traditional door hangings—this rug feels festive and full of joy. Scattered across are elements from daily village life: old homes with detailed walls, blooming flowers, and leafy plants. Pinki has also woven flowing leheriya patterns, capturing the spirit, movement, and energy of her people. Even if you’ve never walked through her village, this rug lets you feel it. It invites you to travel through textures, colours, and memories, one step at a time. With this thought, Pinki Devi named her rug “Kadam,” meaning “A Step.”
