The Design Story
bhoomiBhoomiIn this Manchha rug, Meena Devi has turned her memory of land into a feeling. The rug draws inspiration from mountain terrain that is uneven, layered, and constantly shifting. She uses a glitch-like design language to show the surface that moves in broken paths, like earth shaped by time, weather, and footsteps. “We don’t know the history of this land,” Meena says, “but just thinking about how countless footsteps have shaped it feels wonderful.” Her colour palette carries soil, stone, and shadow, and comes together the way mountains do in a natural way. She named her Manchaha “Bhoomi” (Land), the ground felt underfoot. A reminder that the land we stand on holds memory, struggle, and strength, and that even in its fractures, it continues to carry us.
