The Design Story
bhool-bhulaiyaBhool-BhulaiyaBeerbal, named this rug "Bhool-Bhulaiya", meaning "the maze" in Hindi. For the past six years, he has lived behind bars, where every day feels like navigating endless corridors of uncertainty. The prison, with its routines and restrictions, became a mental labyrinth, full of dead ends and unanswered questions. Carpet weaving became his turning point. It gave him clarity, a sense of purpose, and a way forward. With every knot tied, he began to untangle something within himself. In this work, his brilliant use of color reflects the joy and light that weaving has brought into the darkest corners of his life. The vibrant tones pulse with hope, and the composition carries the confidence of someone who is trying to get out of the labyrinth and finding his own path. More than a maze, this rug is a map of Beerbal’s journey, from confusion to clarity, from confinement to expression.
