The Design Story
neela safarNeela SafarThis carpet is like a quiet journey that moves through rivers of thought, villages from memory, and skies filled with dreams. The weavers felt a sense of peace when they saw the colours of yarns for this carpet. Looking closely, you’ll see layers of patterns: small flowers, diamonds, waves, arrows. Some come from traditional designs. There are other motifs like a temple top, farm fields, and the curve of a bridge, which are woven from the memory of their home lands. A few rows even have small houses lined up. Towards the bottom, soft floral bands bloom, and then there is the intersection of geometry and nature. Near the top, there’s a section with bold patterns that represent the reflections of the past, and the geometric and natural motifs continue. The weavers said that each motif represents a part of their journey. With this thought, they named the rug “Neela Safar,” which means “Blue Journey.”
