The Design Story
hasi-kushi" (joy and laughter)Hasi-Kushi" (Joy and Laughter)The bond between a brother-in-law and a sister-in-law is truly unique in the world, and this relationship is clearly reflected in this Manchaha carpet. A mix of sweet and tangy conversations and joyous moments tell the story woven into this rug. This masterpiece was created by Neetu, Ranjana, Rajeshkumari, and her husband Anil. Anil, an experienced artist, worked the fastest on the loom, often making it difficult for the other weavers to incorporate their own designs. However, Rajeshkumari, Anil's wife, teamed up with her friends Neetu and Ranjana to outsmart Anil. Initially, the carpet looked like a collection of separate panels. But as the friends gradually took control, even Anil conceded. Soon, all of them were collaboratively shaping the carpet. The initial inspiration came from Rajeshkumari. She drew from the designs she used for knitting sweaters before her marriage, incorporating those small patterns into the hand-knotted carpet. This art, which she had learned from her mother, now blessed their creation. They utilized all their art skills, such as basket weaving and crochet, dedicating themselves wholeheartedly to embellishing this rug. "Though our eyes may ache with all the intricate weaving, the sight of the finished rug brings us pure joy," everyone remarked, marveling at their completed masterpiece. With laughter, happiness, and togetherness, they named the Manchaha "Hasi-Kushi" (Joy and Laughter).
