The Design Story
nayi sochNayi SochThis Manchaha was woven by Guddi, Suman, and Sonia, who are known for their signature diagonal-line compositions. This time, however, the three weavers wanted to challenge themselves. They asked a simple question: Can we create a modern design using only textures, colours, and simple forms? Leaving behind their familiar style, they built the rug using broad horizontal bands, soft colour transitions, and layered textures. Instead of relying on many motifs, they let the weaving itself become the design. In the middle, they added a personal detail. Woven in an abstract form are three small seats, representing the three of them sitting together at the loom. It is a quiet reminder of the friendship and teamwork behind the making of this Manchaha. At the top of the rug, the weavers introduced fine, crooked lines inspired by the cracks they had seen on walls. Rather than seeing them as imperfections, they found beauty in their natural patterns and translated them into the rug. With this rug, Guddi, Suman, and Sonia stepped out of their comfort zone. So, they named their Manchaha ‘Nayi Soch,’ which means ‘New Thinking.’
