The Design Story
bandh pahadBandh PahadShashi and Pinki, two close friends, decided to create their first Manchaha together. But what should their first Manchaha incorporate? This question troubled both the weavers until they decided to weave what they were surrounded by - mountains. But they decided to introduce some twist to it. Shashi had a creative idea to show a mountain upside down. They played with different colors and mixed yarns, which led to a unique look while they chatted and laughed at the loom. As they were halfway through their work, Pinki suggested they finish the design with something called a “Bandh Pahad,” which means “Closed Mountain.” The final piece looked like a mountain’s reflection in the water and captured all the joy and fun they shared while weaving. It invites everyone who sees it to appreciate the special feelings held within the closed mountain.
