The Design Story
north west persia, iran (c.1910)Stylized Tree of Life defines this antique hand-knotted rug from Northwest Persia, crafted in 1910. The central field, presented in a calming aqua sky, features a magnificent stylized tree of life, its branches densely populated with abstract, leaf-like motifs in warm brown and subtle pink tones. This inner panel is uniquely shaped like a large pointed medallion, creating a distinct visual boundary. Surrounding this central design, the main field of the rug radiates in a rich orange, adorned with traditional geometric motifs and smaller floral elements. The entire composition is elegantly framed by multiple borders with repeating stylized patterns, flanked by slender guard stripes with complementary geometric designs.
