hamadan, iran (c.1990)An antique hand-knotted Hamadan rug, woven in 1990 in Iran, this rug features a bold ribbon red field that radiates warmth and vibrancy. At its heart lies a commanding ink blue stepped medallion, intricately filled with stylized florals and geometric motifs in ivory, peach, and soft green. The surrounding field is richly decorated with ascending boteh-like vines and rosettes. Flanking the central design, corner spandrels in ivory lighten the composition while echoing the same motifs. The borders, rendered in deep blue, showcase a series of angular floral cartouches and geometric emblems, framed by delicate guard stripes.
