The Design Story
akash gangaAkash GangaPushpendra and Meera, a husband-wife duo who weave together, always sleep on the terrace under the starry sky on warm summer nights. Meera, who is really into astrology, dreams of seeing the Milky Way someday. When they got a package with a new Manchaha rug, Pushpendra suggested, “Why not weave Akash Ganga (Milky Way)?” With beautiful blues and whites, the weavers created a night sky full of stars. Using dotted patterns, zig-zags, diamonds, and many hidden designs, they richly ornamented the starry sky. This rug offers a view that is rarely seen. The weavers hope to see the Milky Way in real life, but they take great pride in having made their own version with their hands in this hand-knotted rug.
