The Design Story
kachuaKachuaWeaving a Manchaha is an ocean of endless possibilities. Everything under the sun can inspire weavers to weave it on their carpet. Saroj and Kavita were two such weavers who were overwhelmed by the numerous possibilities in front of them. But once they started weaving, nothing could stop them. The carpet is full of various kinds of motifs, such as trees, flowers of various kinds, mountain ranges, dolls, frogs, kites, a hand fan, and various other shapes. The motif of what seems like an ice cream cone catches one’s eye. There is a big beautiful chain motif right in the middle of the carpet. Most of their work seems abstract as one needs to completely indulge themselves to notice designs and patterns. One such abstract design is of a tortoise. Being proud of this motif, they went on to name their work “Kachua” (tortoise). They gave an end to their process by weaving their names in English letters.
