The Design Story

patjhad

Patjhad
Sohan wove the "Patjhad" (Autumn) Manchaha in Ajmer Jail. He used to observe the leaves of trees falling on the ground and being carried away by the wind during autumn. One day, he saw the leaves and hibiscus flowers floating on the water pit near his jail cell. This inspired him to weave the floating objects in the water into his rug. He visited the water pit every day and used the blue-green colors of the water, weaving in the algae as well. He also dropped some objects into the water to see the patterns they created, which he then captured in his rug. Sohan prominently wove two red hibiscus flowers using wool and silk yarns, along with the floating leaves, making his hand-knotted rug one-of-a-kind.
