The Design Story
musafariMusafariAward-winning artist Dhafali Devi finds inspiration in the world around her. For this Manchaha, she wove together memories of her village and moments from her own life. She began by weaving mountains, fields, and plants, giving each mountain a different pattern and texture. The rug is divided into sections, each representing a different farmland, just as the landscape changes from one field to another around her village. In the top right corner, Dhafali created a beautiful night sky filled with stars and a crescent moon. It brings a quiet sense of stillness to the rug, balancing the busy landscape below. On the top left, she wove a train with its windows. She wove it right after her journey to Udaipur for a family wedding. It was a memorable trip, and she wanted that happy memory to travel with her through this Manchaha. Like many of Dhafali Devi's creations, this rug brings together nature, memories, and imagination. At the end, she named this Manchaha “Musafari” (Travelling).
