The Design Story
brahmaand ka khelBrahmaand Ka KhelCreated as part of the Manchaha x Ashiesh Shah Brahmand collection, this circular rug reflects Godhi Devi and Sumitra’s interpretation of the universe through their own village memories. Introduced to the idea of Brahmand, the vast cosmos of stars and galaxies, the artisans connected it to the night skies of their childhood, when they would sleep outdoors and watch constellations shimmer above them. They chose to weave the rug in a circle, like the moon itself. Around it, they scattered stars, constellations, and meteors, letting the entire surface feel alive, as if the galaxy is constantly in motion. But at the center, they placed something deeply personal. Inside the full moon sits a small child, playing with a spinning wheel, a simple village game they both grew up with. For them, this was also a universe. That little wheel was everything. They would spin it for hours, watching it whirl and wobble, imagining it as the sun, the moon, a planet, a whole world of its own. imagination felt real. A small courtyard became a galaxy, a game became a universe. Through "Brahmaand ka Khel" (The Play of Universe), Godhi and Sumitra return to that feeling, where joy was enough, and the whole brahmaand could fit into the palms of their hands.
