The Design Story
rangleelaRangleelaIn Hindi, “Leela” means a divine dance, and Saraswati’s Manchaha Rangleela is a divine dance of colors! Saraswati started weaving this rug during the festive season, and in between came the festival of Holi! Which is one of her favorites. Saraswati is a nature lover and initially took inspiration to weave her designs from the mountains that surround her village. Still, as soon as the festival came closer, her excitement grew. She spread all her colorful yarns to make a wave of rang (color) on her rug! She explained how people splashed buckets of colors on each other during the festival. In the same way, she has spread a whole bucket of her yarns into the rug. Saraswati loves to wear bright-colored sarees and spread the love the shimmer! She returned to weaving her beloved mountains after the festival was gone, but she depicted the hills of night with a twist. She was decorating the mountains with stars and the beautiful night sky. The stars came from her shimmery sarees. The play of color mesmerized her as she said that your eyes would dance from one part to the other as you gazed into her “Rangleela.”
