The Design Story
duaDuaThe Dua (Blessing) rug is a heartfelt creation woven by four sisters—Rubina, Armeen, Sharmeen, and Yasmeen. Their connection with weaving runs deep, as their father was also a weaver, passing down the craft to them. Their excitement reached new heights as they embarked on their first Manchaha, creating a design that would speak to their hearts and the world around them. Seated on their loom, Rubina began making an unusual design in the left corner. In her village, where travel is rare and train journeys are a source of wonder, Rubina drew inspiration from the view of a river flowing beneath a train bridge for her design. Their designs unfold layer by layer. The initial embroidery designs brought shimmer and elegance, just as the sisters loved to wear bright, embellished clothes. But it was Rubina's unexpected design inspired by an X-ray added a unique twist to the piece, where the ordinary transformed into the extraordinary. One of the most charming motifs in Dua is the umbrella-shaped mushroom, representing the sisters' shared fondness for mushrooms. The fragrance of life also found a place in this rug. The sisters, who adore sweet-smelling perfumes, wove a beautiful bottle design into the carpet. However, the most profound aspect of the Dua rug lies in the prayers it carries. The sisters' home is situated near a mosque, where the call to prayer is heard five times a day. As they wove, they shared a beautiful, sacred tradition: while working on the rug, they prayed for it to be perfect, for it to carry their Dua.
