The Design Story
moroccon (c.2000)Design Story
Presenting a modern interpretation of tribal aesthetics, this Moroccan rug, hand-knotted around 2000, offers a vibrant and textural presence. The expansive field, awash in a gradient of Orange tones, subtly incorporates a stripe design through variations in hue and pile, creating a dynamic visual flow. Overlaying this rich ground, a network of slender lines in Italian Straw forms an engaging diamond pattern, adding a refined geometric counterpoint. The minimalist borders, marked by their organic fringe, allow the captivating central design to fully command attention. This piece, with its bold coloration and contemporary appeal, celebrates the innovative spirit of Moroccan weaving.
City Story
Nain: The Jewel of Persian Weaving
Situated on the edge of Iran’s central desert between Isfahan and Yazd, Nain emerged as a weaving center in the late 19th to early 20th century, when local artisans, inspired by Isfahan carpets, turned their skills from fine wool cloaks to rug making. Though a relative newcomer, the city quickly established its own identity: carpets of airy design, where delicate floral sprays, arabesques, and medallions float across fields of ivory, pale blue, and peach.
The hallmark of Nain lies in its finesse, with extraordinarily fine knotting enhanced by silk outlines that lend each motif a subtle, luminous shimmer. With their restrained palette and refined clarity, Nain rugs remain an unmistakable signature of the city, and today stand among the most admired expressions of Persian weaving artistry.
