City Story
In the south of Iran, on the route connecting Isfahan and Shiraz, the town of Abadeh has developed into a charming market place. The medieval city's craft industry is significant, and several superb carpets are woven here. Abadeh rugs typically have a warp made of cotton and a thin, densely knotted pile. Many of the modern ideas are instantly recognized, even though the styles of some of the ancient Abadehs alter. These modern patterns, called Heybatlu, feature tiny medallions on each quadrant and a single medallion in the midst that is shaped like a diamond. On top of a dark blue background with distinct green accents, the primary colors are light reds or scorched orange. The pattern is often geometrical or flowers or animals. The edges or borders are often ivory in color.
