The Design Story
ghich pichGhich PichPintu started this rug with uncertainty. She sat at the loom, unsure of what to weave. She tried to weave the design of a plant in quite a literal way, but she didn’t like it. So she returned to the abstract design language that feels most natural to her, her quiet way of seeing the world. Pintu has a gift for noticing beauty that others overlook. In this rug, Pintu has woven the crack on a mud wall, huge mountains, and rivers emerging and cascading from the mountains. She wove all of it in her own modern, abstract style. The patterns are intricate, layered, and completely organic. What looks simple from a distance reveals more the closer you go. That is what makes Pintu’s work unique: familiar elements, transformed through her eye into something entirely her own. After the completion of her rug, she named the rug that describes her design language, “Ghich Pich,” meaning “Cramped.”
