The Design Story

pahado ke beech

Pahado ke Beech
Guddi Devi is drawn to bright colours. When she received the yarns for this Manchaha, she didn’t hesitate. She began with vertical zig-zag patterns, letting them connect and flow into wave-like forms. The movement feels continuous, as if one pattern is slowly turning into another. From the middle of the rug, shapes of mountains begin to appear. They feel organic and slightly uneven, like the ones that surround her village. This was one of her early Manchahas. She remembers feeling both nervous and excited while weaving it. There was uncertainty, but also a strong pull to keep going and see what would form. That feeling stays in the rug. It moves between control and freedom, between knowing and discovering. She named the rug ‘Pahado ke Beech’, meaning ‘Inbetween Mountains’.
