The Design Story
kaagaz ki kashtiKaagaz Ki KashtiIn the confines of Dausa Jail, Mahesh embarked on his weaving journey. The dark blue hues of his yarn reminded him of the vast ocean at the same time evoking a sense of nostalgia. He remembered the little ponds and pits of water that formed around his village during his childhood. As a boy, he used to make paper boats (kaagaz ki kashti) and float them in those puddles. That little Mahesh was so innocent, and these memories inspired him to create a bold central motif symbolizing how our childhood shapes us all. As adults, we often believe we are sailing the big boats of life, yet everything remains as unexpected and temporary as a paper boat. This realization led Mahesh to weave intense waves of the ocean into the background of his rug, but at the top, he added elements of flowers, resembling paper cuttings. These flowers represent the innocence we should always carry within ourselves, no matter where life's unpredictable currents may take us.
