The Design Story
prithviPrithviFor sisters Madeena and Anjum, stepping into the world of Manchaha weaving was both exciting and uncertain. It was their very first Manchaha rug. So, they started small, weaving simple, scattered patterns. But as the days passed and the loom grew fuller, something within them shifted. They realized this rug was their story and so they began again with confidence. Anjum took her place on the left side of the rug, while elder sister Madeena sat on the right. Anjum’s bold, wavy patterns began to flow like a river. On the other side, delicate motifs emerged from Madeena’s own clothes. The sisters made a quiet pact: no repetitions. Every part of their Manchaha would hold something new. At the bottom center of the rug, they wove heartfelt tribute—the raw beauty of bricks from their own home. Those bricks, to them, symbolized the labor and love with which their parents had built a safe space for them. As they worked, a deeper conversation unfolded between the two: What is home? That question sparked a new vision. Home, they realized, is not just walls and roofs. It’s the Earth itself—a shared shelter for people, animals, birds, and trees alike. And so, their design transformed. In the upper middle of the rug, clouds rolled in, with tiny birds soaring freely in the vast sky. Between these skies and their rooted bricks, the sisters filled their rug with blossoms, flowing rivers, and playful, decorative elements. “Just as the Earth decorates itself—with rivers, trees, flowers, and mountains, giving something to everyone—we’ve tried to do the same,” they said. “Our rug is for everyone, like “Prithvi” (Earth). A home for all.”
