The Design Story
teen boliTeen BoliThis Manchaha is about three different hands working on one loom. Guddi, Suman, and Sonia decided that each of them would weave in her own way. Usually, they blend their designs so smoothly that you cannot tell who did what. But this time, they let their differences stay visible. Suman, the quietest of the three, sits in the centre. It is a fixed arrangement. Guddi and Sonia, who love to talk, sit on either side. They laugh that this seating plan keeps the loom balanced in more ways than one. Guddi moves towards intricate and abstract forms. Her sections carry layered lines and unexpected shifts. Sonia enjoys clearer, decorative patterns — zig-zags, flowers, repeating borders. Suman works with control and spacing, holding the structure together. Before they weave, they calculate space in their heads. They understand proportion and rhythm without drawing it on paper. This Manchaha is playful, but it is also a display of their confidence and experience. Even though three people have created this carpet, it holds together because they understand balance. This is why they named the Manchaha ‘Teen Boli’ — Three Voices — because each sister speaks through her own design, but the final piece is one shared conversation.
