The Design Story
jeevandharaJeevandharaThis Manchaha by Rampyari, Jyoti, and Manju Devi is a celebration of water. In one of their earlier rugs, the three weavers had explored the desert—its endless dunes, flowing lines, and dry landscape. This time, when they received shades of blue yarn, they wanted to create its opposite. They began at the bottom of the rug by weaving the ocean. The flowing waves, layered textures, and rippling patterns capture the constant movement of water. As the eye moves upward, the sea transforms into rivers that wind through the landscape. Mountains rise in the background, with streams and waterfalls flowing down their slopes, carrying water across the land. Throughout the rug, the weavers filled the composition with symbols of abundance. Earthen pots overflowing with water appear between the geometric forms, while flowing lines, diamond motifs, and layered textures create the feeling of water spreading in every direction. For the three weavers, who come from Rajasthan, water is life, prosperity, and hope. In a land where every drop is precious, the sight of rivers, lakes, and full water pots is a blessing. This is why the weavers named their Manchaha ‘Jeevandhara’ (Stream of Life).
