Circa 2010, this Bakhtiari rug from southwestern Iran presents a distinguished medallion design. Its vibrant central field, magnificently dominated by hues of orange mandarin and bright gold, provides a resplendent ground. A prominent central medallion, richly adorned with bold floral motifs and intricate detailing, commands the composition. The main border elegantly frames the field, exhibiting large, flourishing stylized flowers, while delicate guard borders, delineated by small flowers and leaves, offer a harmonious counterpoint. The field itself is replete with a captivating array of traditional Bakhtiari patterns and supplementary floral elements.
City Story
Bakhtiari tribe rugs from southwestern Iran are hand-knotted and vividly convey diverse narratives. Iconic designs include the Khesti (garden panel) with compartmentalized nature motifs, and medallion-with-corner layouts. Other symbolic patterns like Tree of Life, vase, geometric, and Herati (fish) motifs represent themes of eternity, abundance, interconnectedness, ancestral heritage, and good fortune.
