The Design Story
discoDiscoA trio of weaver, created a vibrant and playful Manchaha rug called Disco! This rug was the first Manchaha by artisans Vinita, Rambidari, and Sangita. Initially hesitant to create their own designs, they decided to play with small chips of color. To them, the arrangement of colors resembled the colorful lights from a disco ball. They laughed at the idea at first, but this simple moment inspired them to have more fun with their imagination. Vinita proposed the idea of creating a dance floor filled with multicolored lights. The three weavers loved the concept and began collecting different colors for their version of the dance floor. They shared that they listened to Bollywood songs while creating the playful dance floor. As the vibrant energy of their loom caught the attention of other weavers in the neighborhood, many became interested in learning and contributing to the hand-knotted rug. Just as the dance floor invites everyone to join, the three weavers welcomed other artisans to take part in making this rug, resulting in a variety of patterns. The finished product is a lively and energetic piece, aptly named Disco.
