The Design Story
raat ka noorRaat Ka NoorNight holds secrets, a realm where the world slows, and unseen wonders reveal themselves. Prembharti, Pushpa, and Reeta, three young and dynamic Manchaha artists, capture this magic in their rug "Raat Ka Noor," (The Radiance of Night) a journey through the night illuminated by their dreams. Growing up in villages where sunset signaled curfew for girls, the artists longed to roam under the moonlit sky. Presented with shades of greys and lavenders, they wove a dusk-inspired design. "We want to walk freely in the moonlight," they shared, expressing a simple yet profound desire that resonates with countless women. Their journey begins with familiar village streetlights, glowing faintly as night falls woven at the very bottom of the rug. These flickering lights symbolize the transition from the real world to a realm of imagination and transition into a dark forest with mystical plants and glowing flowers. Inspired by animals' shining eyes at night, they wove a landscape where nature illuminates the darkness. Guided by the soft glow of fireflies, the girls' imagination leads them to a serene lake, a vision inspired by their collective dream of visiting Dal Lake in Kashmir. They wove their dream houseboat floating in the water adorned with intricate wooden carvings and shimmering chandeliers. The moonlight dances on the lake's surface, creating a mesmerizing reflection of countless shooting stars woven at the top. "Raat Ka Noor" is like a portal into the hearts and minds of these young artists. It is a manifestation of their dreams, a declaration of their desire for freedom, and a celebration of the beauty in darkness.
