The Design Story

eenteh ki dewar

Eenteh Ki Dewar
Sampati Devi’s Manchaha, “Eenteh Ki Dewar” captures the rawness of her house, built with red bricks. When Sampati started weaving her Manchaha she could not think of anything that she could seek inspiration from, soon her eyes caught the attention of the uncemented walls of her house which made her wonder how her unfinished walls would look on a rug. Exploring her curiosity she started weaving the walls of her house with red color yarns and ensured to maintain a distance between the patterns to give it a real effect on this beautifully hand-knotted wool and silk rug. At the center of her Manchaha, she has woven the sliding entrance of her house, which is used in the village house for the smooth entrance of the vehicles inside the house. During the olden days, people used to have parking for their vehicles inside the house rather than outside the house. At the right-hand side of her manchaha, she has woven small flowers to decorate the wall of her house. Sampati’s manchaha is a beautiful portrayal of how the smallest of the things can head our imagination towards boundless creation.
