The Design Story
roshiniRoshiniThe Manchaha results from sweet, cherished moments a mother and her daughters shared while weaving their first Manchaha. Manbhari Devi began by weaving the border of her own saree using the variety of wool and silk yarns. Her inspiration came from the fact that her daughters would soon be married and leave their homes. Their love is evident in the flowers they planted on the rug using the hand-knotting technique. During the weaving process, they welcomed a new member of their family, Manbhari’s granddaughter. This carpet blooms with the happiness with which they welcomed the little one. Nisha and Goma added their floral designs to the creation, drawing inspiration from the blanket the new baby was wrapped in during the winter. In the midst of weaving, Manbhari infused life into her manchaha by weaving a set of eyes in the middle, giving it a soul. The arrival of a new child, alongside the act of giving their creation eyes, serves as a profound metaphor. Just as their family welcomed a new life, the carpet itself was reborn with “Roshini” (Light).
