The Design Story
holi ka giftHoli Ka GiftThe making of Urmila’s Manchaha started just the day after “Holi”- the festival of colors. Holi holds a great importance for the people in the village as it brings the whole community together. People sing, dance, eat and play endlessly with colors. It’s the most carefree day of the year! Just the day after when Urmila sat on her loom after celebrating, she saw the whole roads, the floor and walls of her home covered with the splashes of color. Those marks seemed designs to Urmila’s eyes. It inspired her to incorporate the crazy memories of the festival onto her Manchaha. She weaved with every colour of wool and silk that was available to her. After some time of weaving the designs her eyes went to the saree that her brother gifted during the festival because of which she named her Manchaha, “Holi Ka Gift”. She weaved the love for her brother by weaving the saree patterns by hand-knotting each thread with love. She has even decided that she would wear the same saree when the photographer from Jaipur Rugs would come to click her pictures with her Manchaha.
