The Design Story
bhool bhoolaiyaBhool BhoolaiyaThis hand-knotted rug is woven by weavers who know how to see beauty in the simplest things. On a hot summer afternoon, Shashi, Sapna, Archana, and Soni sat together, weaving in quiet focus. As they worked, something caught their eye - a ‘chaddar’ (sheet) left out in the sun by their neighbor. The way it folded and created patterns of light and shadow caught their attention. It looked like a maze, full of twists and turns. That simple sight stayed with them. They decided to bring it to life in their weaving. Knot by knot, they recreated the folds, the movement, and subtle diamond-shaped paths. The colors of the rug also represented the warmth of the Sun and their memory of summer afternoons spent together weaving. Turning an ordinary moment into a calming piece, the weavers named this Manchaha “Bhool Bhoolaiya,” (maze).
