The Design Story
dahleezDahleezOne day, Anuradha shared a heartfelt dream with her mother: her deep desire to see the ocean. Living in a village surrounded by mountains and farmland, she had never seen a large body of water. Her days are usually spent at the loom or helping her mother, leaving little opportunity to travel. Inspired by this longing, Anuradha decided to bring her dream to life through her weaving. She began this Manchaha by weaving brick wall patterns to symbolize her home. Beyond these walls, she imagined the ocean, using cool-toned yarns to create its waves, entirely from her imagination. However, the highlighting design of this rug is in the center where Anuradha has tried to depict the scene of sunlight falling on the ocean. "The water looks so sparkly when sunlight hits it! I’ve seen it on TV," Anuradha shared, her eyes lighting up with excitement. With this rug, she invites viewers to step beyond the brick walls of their homes and join her on a journey to the ocean. She named the rug “Dahleez,” meaning “Threshold,” symbolizing the crossing of boundaries into a world of dreams.
