The Design Story
prem gharPrem GharSurji Devi's Manchaha, "Prem Ghar," is an artistic expression of her love for her home and deep connection to the natural surroundings. Surji Devi's inspiration for the design of "Prem Ghar" (Home of Love) comes from the raw and organic elements of building a house. The baandarwal (decorative garland, usually adorning the very entrance of the house) stretching from one end of the carpet to the other signifies the unity and continuity that a house brings to a family which is beautifully portrayed in this hand-knotted creation. It symbolizes the bond between different family members living together under one roof and the strong ties with the extended family and the community. Each house holds a unique story, memory, and emotion. They also symbolize the dreams and aspirations of different family members, showcasing the various stages of life and the family's growth over time. Surrounding the houses with open nature emphasizes the beauty of a simple and peaceful life. Surji Devi Manchaha expresses her deep affection for her house and establishes it as a place filled with love, care, and compassion for her family.
