The Design Story
baraste badalBaraste BadalAnju Devi's Manchaha, "Baraste Badal," answers her daughter's innocent curiosity about why clouds would appear so dark during rain. Anju Devi was delighted by Priyanshi’s innocence and decided to answer her question through her rug. Seeking this as inspiration, she weaved patterns that resembled dark, rainy clouds using her wool and silk yarns, narrating to her daughter that the clouds were sad because they couldn't meet her. Her daughter, Priyanshi, would then gaze out of the window and watch the clouds pass by, imagining how she could meet them. Anju then decided to weave some delicate pattern that resembled tiny water droplets, explaining to her child that, just like humans express their emotions through tears, nature does the same through rain. Anju Devi's Manchaha honors the curious minds and thoughts of kids and how their creative questions should be answered in a creative way to keep their curiosity alive.
