The Design Story
saasu maa ka lehereiyaSaasu Maa ka LehereiyaFor a girl, a mother-in-law is a second mother. Its beautiful how through the institution of marriage, a girl does not just gain a life partner but an ounce of motherly love as well. Prem is one such mother-in-law and her daughters-in-law dedicate a hand-woven carpet for her. Prem, Usha and Sona weaved together and called their Manchaha rug “Saasu Maa ka Lehereiya.” The name can be literally translated to “Mother in-law’s Leheriya Saree” as Prem is a mother-in-law who loves “Lehereiya” (wavy designs) sarees. They even weaved “Shakkarpara” designs. Apart from that, there are lamps, flowers and other artsy motifs at the center. All artisans weaved what their respective minds seeked them too. They have their own unique styles and they did not waste time discussing or fighting over designs. At the end, all three off them were extremely satisfied with their own creation.
