The Design Story
rishton ka saharaRishton ka Sahara“Rishton ka Sahara” (Support of Relations) is a hand-knotted rug crafted by three talented artisans - Suman Devi, Kali Devi, and Komal. Woven during the Makarsankranti, kite festival, this Manchaha includes all the festive details including Til ke Laddu (Sesame seeds sweet) and kites. They have also incorporated designs inspired by a leheriya chunni. The weavers shared that loom is like a journaling for them; not just because of the meditative process, but also because the weavers shared a plethora of conversations every day. They talked about their home lives, different cooking recipes, clothes and weddings, and often about their husbands. The weavers shared that this routine of sharing talks and emotions keeps them going. No matter what turns life takes, they find comfort in knowing they have each other. With this thought, they named their Manchaha “Rishton ka Sahara,” meaning “Support of Relations.”
