The Design Story
door si jhilmilDoor si JhilmilSantosh Devi has always been drawn to illusions, the shimmer of heat on Rajasthan’s desert roads, that mirage effect where the land seems to ripple and shift. She loves how the eye gets tricked for a moment, how something ordinary suddenly feels unreal. That fascination shaped this rug. To create the illusion, she mixed yarns in subtle shifts of shade, letting the colours blur and sharpen like desert heatwaves. Santosh is a modern weaver at heart, and experimenting comes naturally to her. She doesn’t enjoy following a single pattern or staying within one design. Instead, she keeps trying new ideas, pushing herself to see what the loom can hold. This rug carries that spirit, a play of colour, movement, and distortion, like a mirage captured with yarns. Upon finishing the carpet, she named it “Door si Jhilmil,” meaning “A shimmer from afar”, carrying the beauty and unattainable nature of a mirage.
