The Design Story
chanchalChanchalPeople often focus on what they lack, until someone else’s journey shows them the blessings they already hold. Rukmani Ji is one such example. Seven years ago, an accident left her deaf. With two children to raise, she chose dignity over sympathy and decided to learn weaving. This choice became her turning point. Today, weaving Manchaha rugs is her way of expressing what words cannot. She often sits at the loom with her eyes gently closed, allowing designs to form in her mind. This rug feels like it was woven for a child! Tiny camels walk playfully , igloo-shaped tent houses appear and multicolored, Tetris-like shapes scatter across the rug. At the top, wide fields stretch out calmly, grounding the playful world below. Rukmani Ji shares that while weaving this rug, she would often grow bored of one design and begin another mid-way, allowing her restlessness to guide her hands. That spirit gives the rug its name—Chanchal, meaning playful.
